Welcome to Mighty Bikes, a summer-long mountain biking program for kids ages 8 to 18

TUESDAY NIGHTS AT KINCAID PARK

There will either be a race or a fun ride that will preview the course for the next week's race. We will ride in conjunction with the Arctic Bicycle Club's Mountain Bike Division Summer Race series.

Mighty Bikes is pleased to support the Kincaid Singletrack Trail Project.  Mighty Bikes will have an opportunity to participate in helping to build the new trail system that will be used in the future by the Mighty Bikes program.  The project is coordinated by Alaska Trails, a 501(C)3 organization, and the local trail advocacy group, Singletrack Advocates.  A portion of the Mighty Bikes proceeds will help support this project.

IS RACING REQUIRED?

Not at all. But the kids and parents generally find that the races are a blast! Arctic Bicycle Club membership is required to participate in the races. There are races for every level of rider:

Kids' Race:  Up to age 9, 1 to 2 miles on easy terrain

Jr. Beginners:  Hot-shots up to age 18, 5 to 7 miles or 1 full lap

Jr. Sports:  Super-duper hot-shots up to age 18, 10 to 14 miles or 2 laps

Grown-ups: Beginner--1 lap, Sport--2 laps and Experts--3 laps!

THURSDAY NIGHTS AT SERVICE HIGH SCHOOL

The first 1/2 hour is dedicated to learning cool tricks and bike handling skills on friendly ground to make you a better rider out on the trails. Ever wish you could clear that tree root without crashing or getting off your bike? Weave through a boulder garden? Go down or up a steep hill without walking? We will apply the skills learned on the field when we ride the trail system for the last hour of the evening.
